To simplify Cloud and Telecoms, we also need to be able to explain them clearly and concisely. Find the definition of the most common terms used in our business.
Backbone
Also known as the Internet backbone or network core. In a telecom and Internet context, a backbone is the nerve centre of a broadband network and refers to all Internet transmission media. It carries the majority of traffic using faster technologies and has a large bandwidth. Smaller networks (internal to a company or a region) are connected to it.
To illustrate a backbone, the metaphor of a river fed by many small rivers is often used.
